PEEK gear pumps for highly corrosive applications

In the world of demanding technical applications, you face challenges every day that call for innovative solutions. That is exactly where we come in: with the TEF-MAG® gear pump made of PEEK from MARCH PUMPEN.

Because when very small quantities of highly corrosive liquids have to be pumped in plants with large pressure losses and high temperatures are also required for the process, most pump systems reach their limits. With the patented external gear pump TEF-MAG®, MARCH PUMPEN has not only created an entirely non-metallic pump hydraulic system but has also optimised it for special applications.

For various applications with 30% potassium hydroxide, at operating temperatures of up to 90 °C, such as alkaline electrolysis, the MARCH magnetic-drive gear pump TEF-MAG® made of the high-performance plastic PEEK (polyetheretherketone) was designed and manufactured specifically to users’ requirements. Among other things, the engineers at MARCH PUMPEN succeeded in realising a system pressure (design pressure) of PN40 bar (hydrostatic pressure test of 60 bar) with an entirely non-metallic pump using a hybrid containment shell. The casing parts of the TEF-MAG® gear pump are machined from PEEK and thus offer optimal strength, chemical resistance and continuous service temperature for this special field of application. The pump shafts are made of the particularly chemically resistant and wear-resistant material SSiC. For a particularly long service life, the gears, made of a PEEK and PTFE combination, are positively connected to the pump shafts by means of a polygonal shaft-hub profile. Two solid plain bearing blocks made of graphite, alternatively SSiC or also PEEK, centre and support the shaft-gear units optimally in the pump casing. No miniature or standard parts made of special materials are therefore needed for the entire pump hydraulics. Statically installed O-rings and a permanent magnet coupling round off the whole system in terms of safety and ensure hermetically sealed and hazard-free pumping of the corrosive liquids with this PEEK gear pump.
